Jacinth Tan, PhD

Principal Investigator

Jacinth is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Singapore Management University, School of Social Sciences. She received her PhD in Social-Personality Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She went on to pursue a postdoctoral training in social psychophysiology at the University of California, San Francisco, Center for Health & Community. Jacinth studies how socioeconomic backgrounds and environments shape social perception and interactions. She is also interested in psychosocial factors that shape health-relevant outcomes and health disparities. Outside of research, Jacinth enjoys off-the-grid hiking in the mountains and is an aspiring corgi-owner.

Suqi Chia, BSocSc

Lab Manager

Suqi graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology from the National University of Singapore. She is interested in how social contexts shape individuals’ interactions and decision-making. She is also keen on exploring diverse research methods to gain deeper insights into these social dynamics. Outside of research, she enjoys listening to music and watching movies.

Gregory Tan, MPhil

PhD Candidate

Gregory is a PhD candidate at Singapore Management University. He is currently working on his dissertation, which investigates how perceptions of social mobility influence people’s views on social class attributions, and how this affects stereotypes of different social class groups. Gregory is primarily interested in how social mobility and social class affect people’s attitudes and cognition, and how these may translate into other outcomes. He hopes that his research can provide useful insights to help mitigate inequality. In his free time, Gregory plays football, serves in church, or spends time with close friends.

Yan Fen Tan, BSc

PhD Student

Yan Fen is a third-year PhD student at the Singapore Management University. She is specifically interested in examining how socioeconomic status shapes emotional and physiological responses to stress, and how these patterns may contribute to health disparities over time. Outside of research, she enjoys playing fingerstyle ukulele and aspires to learn the flute.

Nathanael Beh

Master's Student

Nathanael is a first-year Masters' student at Singapore Management University, majoring in Psychology. He is interested in researching how social factors affect the experience of exercise and how these may be applied in exercise promotion. Outside of research, Nathanael is enjoys working out and competes for both the university and his club in Ultimate Flying Disc.

Senior Thesis Student

Shauna is a final year undergraduate at Singapore Management University, majoring in Psychology and Communication Management (Data Design Communication). She is interested in how social class has the potential to shape the way individuals think and behave, and what cognitive repercussions can occur from class disparities. Apart from research, she can be found working on her next crochet project or jumping into a rabbit hole of niche video essays.

She is interested in how psychological factors affect the way people manage their health, and how these insights can shape more effective interventions.
